Every generation blames the one before

Wand: Hawthorn and Unicorn hair, Ten inches, Springy

Since nothing has been addressed regarding control that Harry still has over Draco's wand (lol) and, more importantly, Draco's control over the Elder wand, it's my headcanon that the Ministry had to destroy Draco's wand to break the link and that he spent years finding a suitable replacement but eventually did - 11 1/2 inches, Hornbeam with Unicorn hair core.

he was prudently reminded that such sentiments ought not to be expressed outside the small circle of the family and their close friends ‘or Daddy might get into trouble’.

That's messed up.

It was comforting to think that he, Lucius, might be in for a second chance of world domination, should this Potter boy prove to be another, and greater, pure-blood champion.

Stupid of Lucius but plausible. Does this mean he did not know of the prophecy?

(Crabbe being already in position pre-Hogwarts)

Interesting that he and Goyle became friends while at Hogwarts. I wonder why the Goyles weren't in that circle already. They were Death Eaters.

Furious at the world that seemed suddenly to have turned on his father, Draco accepted full membership of the Death Eaters and agreed to perform the murder Voldemort ordered. At this early stage, full of the desire for revenge and to return his father to Voldemort’s favour...

Yaaaaas. No reluctant Draco being forced into joining but a young dumbass who is all for it.

Astoria Greengrass

Ok, Asteria is still the better spelling and the way she wrote it on the tree but clearly it's Astoria and I was kind of expecting as much after remembering "Rabastan" Lestrange.

who had gone through a similar (though less violent and frightening) conversion from pure-blood ideals to a more tolerant life view

Some people were upset by this but it has always been my headcanon that while less vicious, Astoria was still quite steeped in privilege. She didn't want to kill Muggles, and didn't quite think of them has human garbage, but she wasn't looking to hang around them or befriend them either, y'know?

was felt by Narcissa and Lucius to be something of a disappointment as a daughter-in-law. They had had high hopes of a girl whose family featured on the ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’, but as Astoria refused to raise their grandson Scorpius in the belief that Muggles were scum, family gatherings were often fraught with tension

Best part. JKR could have spelled her damn name Esturyah for all I care just for this part because according to this:

- Astoria is not a Narcissa or Pansy clone.
- Astoria is not some weak little thing to be cowed. She has her own values and integrity.
- Scorpius is raised to be a better person than Draco! All Scorpius/Rose (and Scorpius/Lily, As/S and any other next-gen Weasley or Potter) shippers rejoice! Astoria has made your ship possible!
- Draco loves and respects Astoria enough to stand up against his parents - whom he obviously loves and adores - and raise their child the way she wants.
- Also, Astoria clearly wears the trousers in that family. This is like not sending Draco to Durmstrang x10.

So to all the fans who didn't think Scorpius could ever be a decent person or that Astoria was going to be some dull drip that Draco used as a brood mare and didn't care for otherwise:

I have been waiting 7 years for this and it is excellent.

My British editor questioned the fact that Draco was so accomplished at Occlumency, which Harry (for all his ability in producing a Patronus so young) never mastered. I argued that it was perfectly consistent with Draco’s character that he would find it easy to shut down emotion, to compartmentalise, and to deny essential parts of himself. Dumbledore tells Harry, at the end of Order of the Phoenix, that it is an essential part of his humanity that he can feel such pain; with Draco, I was attempting to show that the denial of pain and the suppression of inner conflict can only lead to a damaged person (who is much more likely to inflict damage on other people).

So, as Draco becomes a somewhat slightly doper person in the future, does this mean his Occlumency skills will weaken a bit? Also, is Occlumency the way Snape knew of to protect himself from Dementors without casting a Patronus?

I imagine that Draco grew up to lead a modified version of his father’s existence; independently wealthy, without any need to work,

Nah, I like the idea of his lazy ass having to get a real j-o-b. But still ending up wealthy because that ambition has to kick in sometime.

Draco inhabits Malfoy Manor with his wife and son.

I like to think of him in the same estate/grounds but in a different building as Lucius and Narcissa.

I have high hopes that he will raise Scorpius to be a much kinder and more tolerant Malfoy than he was in his own youth.

This was symbolic. There is, after all - and at the risk of re-kindling unhealthy fantasies - some unextinguished good at the heart of Draco.

Also, what a troll JKR is. I don't know why fans like him, now let me tell you about his tortured past, how the love of a good woman helped save him, and about his scholarly interests! LOL OK.

In real life, work has been seriously weird which is why I haven't been around much. Still a temp and my direct manager quit as did the director she reported to. Their last days were last week. Have no idea who is replacing either and technically, I meet the minimum requirements to replace my direct manager. But it seems a bit presumptuous of a temp to apply to the job.

(Which doesn't mean I won't. Just that I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.)

Also, I have Chromecast, which I love and want to marry. That was my Christmas present to myself and the best $25.00 I've spent recently.

Did everyone else have a good holiday?
