SLYTHERIN HUFFLEPUFF GRYFFINDOR FOREVER and I will choose five SHIP-SPECIFIC icons. You will then make a post explaining why you liked that icon in particular for the ship in question.

(Note that the keywords for each couple are in bold.)
♥ Draco/Asteria | Bettany/Connelly Draco, who, whatever he looks like, is not a nice man. It's a romantic, but unhealthy, and unfortunately all too common delusion of - delusion, there you go - of girls, and you [nods to Melissa] will know this, that they are going to change someone. And that persists through many women's lives, 'til their deathbed, and it is uncomfortable and unhealthy and it actually worried me a little bit, to see young girls swearing undying devotion to this really imperfect character, because there must be an element in there, that "I'd be the one who changes him."
- JK Rowling Mugglenet interview
Yeah, this is the quote I choose for one of my favorite couples because I'm me. So, anyway, a few years ago I was reminded of my love of choosing "played-bys" (aka faces for your RPG characters) when I was in a brief HP RPG. It was set during DH so obviously neither Paul Bettany nor Jennifer Connelly here were being used by me for the characters but that RPG got me thinking and being tall, thin, pointy-faced, and blond, Bettany made a decent older Draco and Connelly looked pretty close to what I had always imagined Asteria so I started using these two for the characters. It works as I tend to write them in their 30/40's. I like this pic of them but this one will always be my favorite for Draco/Asteria purposes
because I think it's perfect for Draco.
As for why I like Draco/Asteria... I have no idea. I still don't know why I like Draco! I blame Scorpius since I started writing him first.
♥ Ron/Hermione | Lewis/? “Ron and Hermione, however, are drawn to each other because they balance each other out. Hermione’s got the sensitivity and maturity that’s been left out of Ron, and Ron loosens up Hermione a bit, gets her to have some fun. They love each other and they bicker a bit, but they enjoy bickering, so we shouldn’t worry about it.”
- JK Rowling, Mugglenet Interview
So once I chose the above two, I started something beyond my control
but something that was really helpful with my writing. Like when writing Next Gen...or for porn. Seriously, there would be no HP porn by me if I was picturing the actors who I watched grow up onscreen. Nope. Anyway, when I was thinking of tall, attractive ginger dudes for a Weasley my first thought was... Eric Stoltz. But years spent in another RPG had me thinking Eric Stoltz = Bill Weasley so I went with Damian Lewis, who is a total sweetheart in Band of Brothers
and plays a maladjusted weirdo everywhere else! This icon seemed perfect since he's smiling all sweetly at some wavy haired brunette helping him with his tie, making it work well for a Ron/Hermione icon.
♥ | Joan Watson/Sherlock Holmes Holmes: I sent you a text with my location every two hours.
Watson: I was busy.
Holmes: I left some urine in your room!
Watson: Tell me it’s in a cup.
- Elementary, 1x07
These are on the path to being the next Mulder and Scully for me. I am looking forward to years of pining and UST and posing as couples and by God if I do not get it, I will send CBS boxes of bees until they give into my demands.
♥ | Daenerys Targaryen/Jorah Mormont“The common people pray for rain, healthy children and a summer that never ends. It is no matter to them if the high lords play their game of thrones, so long as they are left in peace.”
“What do you pray for, Ser Jorah?” she asked him.
“Home,” he said. His voice was thick with longing.
- A Game of Thrones, GRRM
When I first heard about this pairing before seeing the show, just based on the books, I thought "ew gross." But, then I saw the show where Daenerys is over 18 and Ser Jorah by the fine-looking Iain Glen
. It also helps that Jorah on the show is more in awe of Danny and less mansplainy Nice Guy.
♥ | Carla Espinoza/Chris TurkCarla: Christopher!
Turk: Christopher? You only call me that when you're mad at me... or when we're having sex. Baby, are you mad when we're having sex?
I've been watching a lot of this and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
lately. The latter doesn't have much in the way in ships but the former had a lot of heart and a lot of great relationships, chief among them Carla and Turk. I think the show's writers did a good job developing the couple and letting them evolve over the years and the actors had a great natural chemistry that brought the pairing to life.
ETA: And this
is trying to tell me I'm a cross between Draco and Hermione
making me their time-travelling neurotic baby from hell
but unfortunately, it's wrong about both.
